During the summer months, our body is able to produce vitamin D3 itself. For this to be possible, our upper arms and face need to be exposed to the sun for at least half an hour per day. However, we often do not get enough sun for weeks on end, partly because of the central European climate and partly because many people work in enclosed spaces. According to the Austrian Nutrition Report 2017, vitamin D3 is one of the risk nutrients in the population. No age group actually gets the recommended amount of vitamin D3 via food or the sun.
